We lived in a one-bedroom apartment in Northwest D.C. I was essentially raised by a Panamanian man and a Jamaican woman. That's why I have such a fascination with Jamaican food.

This president has said this has to be a priority for our nation protecting our food supply from terrorist acts so he continues to provide the funding that is necessary.

When I said a few weeks ago that our people would eat cooking oil and olives if necessary I didn't mean that there really would be only oil and olives. What I meant was that our people have the necessary patience to endure the current difficult situation. Palestinians would rather do without certain food items than their national rights.

I got a fascination with food.

I was born in the '60s and grew up in the '70s - not exactly the best decade for food in British history. It was horrendous. It was a time when as a nation we excelled in art and music and acting and photography and fashion - all creative skills... all apart from cooking.

But Australia faces additional regional and global challenges also crucial to our nation's future - climate change questions of energy and food security the rise of China and the rise of India. And we need a strong system of global and regional relationships and institutions to underpin stability.

I think the biggest thing is clean as you go. Wash all your knives cutting boards dishes when you are done cooking not look at a sink full of dishes after you are done. Cleaning as you go helps keep away cross contamination and you avoid having food borne bacteria.

The Middle East is ailing. The malady stems from pervasive violence shortages of food water and educational opportunities discrimination against women and - the most virulent cause of all - the absence of freedom.

Food prices are often kept artificially high. The result is that the Millennium Development Goals set out by the United Nations at the start of the new millennium are not being reached. Fine words have not yet been turned into deeds.

There are realities we all share regardless of our nationality language or individual tastes. As we need food so do we need emotional nourishment: love kindness appreciation and support from others.

I have always said there is only one thing that can bring our nation down - our dependence on foreign countries for food and energy. Agriculture is the backbone of our economy.

Agriculture is now a motorized food industry the same thing in its essence as the production of corpses in the gas chambers and the extermination camps the same thing as blockades and the reduction of countries to famine the same thing as the manufacture of hydrogen bombs.

We are involved in youth testing internationally. We want to try to prove without a shadow of a doubt the relationship between physical fitness and health not just physical fitness and ability to perform.

Our strength in finance has led us to set up an international financial centre with medium and long-term objectives especially to develop Islamic financial and insurance services.

I don't plan on going back to legal work. I wanted an international career and finance seemed to be where some interesting career opportunities were.
