U.N. Women was created due to the acknowledgement that gender equality and women's empowerment was still despite progress far from what it should be. Transforming political will and decisions such as the Member States creating U.N. Women into concrete steps towards gender equality and women's empowerment I think is one of the main challenges.

I should like to suggest to you that the cause of all the economic troubles is that we have an economic system which tries to maintain an equality of value between two things which it would be better to recognise from the beginning as of unequal value.

We must recover the element of quality in our traditional pursuit of equality. We must not in opening our schools to everyone confuse the idea that all should have equal chance with the notion that all have equal endowments.

I believe there is complete equality between men and women. And I believe those passages in the New Testament not by Jesus but by Paul that say women should not adorn themselves they should always wear hats or color their hair in church - things like that - I think they are signs of the times and should not apply to modern-day life.

Subordination tends greatly to human happiness. Were we all upon an equality we should have no other enjoyment than mere animal pleasure.

It is better that some should be unhappy rather than that none should be happy which would be the case in a general state of equality.

I am totally against the idea that a Muslim woman should not have the same opportunities as a Muslim man to learn to open up to work help shape the future. To close Islam down to a sexist approach is totally intolerable and ridiculous. It's not Islam.

There should be more attention paid to scientific research in the ecology area and I think that such attention to proper environmental concerns would make the public feel much better about it.

Time after time we're told corporations should have freedom from pesky job safety regulations environmental protections and labor standards - giving working people the freedom to be crushed in collapsing mines choke on filthy air and get paid too little to live on.

The infrastructure for linking environmental health and public health is not working as well as it should.

We should restore a proper balance in environmental regulation and energy production that is based on common sense not political agendas.

Why should we not expect self-designated environmental leaders to practice what they preach?

Moreover the practical recommendations deduced from ecological principles threaten the vested interests of commerce it is hardly surprising that the financial and political power created by these investments should be used sometimes to suppress environmental impact studies.

The government should set a goal for a clean environment but not mandate how that goal should be implemented.

We learned that economic growth and environmental protection can and should go hand in hand.

No one should be able to enter a wilderness by mechanical means.

I think the environment should be put in the category of our national security. Defense of our resources is just as important as defense abroad. Otherwise what is there to defend?
