We used to play music for fun. Much more than now. Now nobody picks up a guitar unless they're paid for it.
From the beginning I knew intuitively that if nothing else music was safe and that nobody could tell me anything about it. Music didn't need a middleman whereas all the other things in school needed some kind of explanation.
For instance I'm always fascinated to see whether given the kind of fairly known and established form called popular music whether there is some magic combination that nobody has hit upon before.
No matter how many times people say it - 'Oh I'm just writing this for myself' 'Oh I'm just doing this for myself' - nobody's doing it for themselves! You're doing it for an audience. So whether I'm performing or writing a book or playing music it's definitely to be put out there and to be received in some way definitely.
Honestly I don't listen to nobody else's music but my own. It's kind of like sports to me. You don't see Kobe Bryant at a LeBron James game - he just works on his own game. And that's what I do. I only listen to me so I can criticize and analyze and all those things.
And the VCR did the same thing: the movie industry thought nobody would ever watch movies any more.
All my good movies nobody sees.
When we were doing 'Freaks and Geeks' I didn't quite understand how movies and TV worked and I would improvise even if the camera wasn't on me. I thought I was helping the other actors by keeping them on their toes but nobody appreciated it when I would trip them up. So I was improvising a little bit back then but not in a productive way.
It's too expensive that's the thing nobody wants to talk about. It is too expensive to make movies. That's not true it is too expensive to market movies. Making movies is not.
Where I live nobody who's fourteen is having sex and doing major drugs. And I think if you see it in the movies you may be influenced by it. I think it's so important to preserve your innocence.
I make movies that nobody will see. I've made movies that even I have never seen.
Woody Allen is really the ultimate. I love that he believed in himself enough to do what he did. And I have that same feeling - that there's nobody that looks like me in movies nobody would cast me as a romantic lead but I want to do it and I feel confident that I can.
Sure 'Twilight' is really huge right now and everybody's freaking out over it but it will go away soon and I will be back to doing what I'm used to doing: weird little movies that nobody sees.
Nobody makes movies like Oliver Stone.
Over the years all these vampire movies have come out and nobody looks like a vampire anymore.
Nobody makes movies bad on purpose.
Nobody wakes up in the morning thinking 'I'm a bad guy.' They think they're the right guy.
