For horror movies color is reassuring because at least in older films it adds to the fakey-ness.

Some movies bring out the creativity in you. Every single audience member can become creative in the face of a particular movie. If you happen to like my films it's because my films provide a bed for you on which you can find your creativity. The Hollywood movies do not provide that for you.

The movies that made me want to make movies were action movies and thrillers and Kurosawa films you know where you have an opportunity every day to shoot it in an unusual way. I was looking for something like that.

I'm into 'The Walking Dead ' 'Shaun of the Dead ' obviously and I've seen all the Romero movies. I am a classic zombie queen. And I love the White Walkers on 'Game of Thrones.' Weirdly it wasn't until pretty late in life that I found my entry point into horror films.

I'm glad movies aren't going to please everybody they can't. But what they have to be is recognisable. I don't equate myself with a master painter but I think you can recognise my films.

I'm proud of all the movies I've made. They're not sequels they're not franchises. And the reason I pick my films carefully is that I don't want to spit on my life. I like to think of myself as more than that.

I don't want to just do independent movies and I don't want to just do adventure films. I enjoy both and I think both are cogent.

When I started to watch some of the films I'd done I realized I was doing movies that I might not actually want to see.

The person that made me want to make movies and the reason I do films is Bruce Lee. He was an incredible actor and he had a lot of charisma. Handsome action you know everything was there. I loved Bruce Lee.

There are characters in movies who I call 'film characters.' They don't exist in real life. They exist to play out a scenario. They can be in fantastic films but they are not real characters what happens to them is not lifelike.

Well Toronto I consider to be the birthplace of my films. I've made three films and this is the third one to premiere here in the same theater on the same day at the same time - they are my audience. They're the people that I think about while I'm writing directing and editing. I specifically make movies for them.

There certainly is no secret in that there are plenty of people who don't like plenty of my movies. Each one of my films is personal each one of my films is emotionally autobiographical. And I like directors who do that. With each one of my films I'm exploring one of my own issues and I try to expose myself a little in the film.

You go back to those films of the '40s and '50s and hear the dialogue the way the people played off each other - the wordplay. I think we've really lost that in movies.

I like the George Romero films which were really great social satire movies really twisted.

I do love the films I've done in the past. I work hard in my movies and my friends work hard and we're trying to make people laugh and I'm very proud of that.

What people adore about superhero movies is the signal quality of the Christopher Nolan films - their complete lack of irony when it comes to the portrayal of heroism and the need for heroes to confront evil.

I still like the run and gun action movies and how truly dangerous it can be to make these films.
