Order is the shape upon which beauty depends.

I would warn you that I do not attribute to nature either beauty or deformity order or confusion. Only in relation to our imagination can things be called beautiful or ugly well-ordered or confused.

I believe that history has shape order and meaning that exceptional men as much as economic forces produce change and that passe abstractions like beauty nobility and greatness have a shifting but continuing validity.

Beauty is desired in order that it may be befouled not for its own sake but for the joy brought by the certainty of profaning it.

I like England more than I did when I left. It's become a bit of a better country in the last ten years in the attitude of it. A bit more Americanized which is both good and bad. At least when you order a cup of coffee they don't give you a hard time.

Part of our western outlook stems from the scientific attitude and its method of isolating the parts of a phenomenon in order to analyze them.

It remains to consider what attitude thoughtful men and Christian believers should take respecting them and how they stand related to beliefs of another order.

Our individual lives cannot generally be works of art unless the social order is also.

There's something pleasing about large well-lit spaces. I love that dealers are willing to take massive chances in order to give this much room to their artists. Most of all I love that more galleries showing more art gives more artists a shot.

Rumors sound of galleries asking artists for upsized art and more of it. I've heard of photographers asked to print larger to increase the wall power and salability of their work. Everything winds up set to maximum in order to feed the beast.

I had wanted a tape recorder since I was tiny. I thought it was a magic thing. I never got one until just before I went to art school.
