Politics and war are remarkably similar situations.

So I suppose poetry language the shaping of it was and remains for me an effort to make sense out of essentially senseless situations.

All my life I've taken photographs of people who are completely at peace being what they were in the situations I photographed them in.

Plot rules nor even poetry are not half so great beauties in tragedy or comedy as a just imitation of nature of character of the passions and their operations in diversified situations.

In life and in movies it's a similar challenge where you have expectations and you end up in situations that are not meeting your expectations.

I am much more open to plural marriage than I was before and I now support it in certain situations. I do believe it is right for some people. But our example in America today is gross abuse - I can't support it in fundamentalist compounds.

Too often in life something happens and we blame other people for us not being happy or satisfied or fulfilled. So the point is we all have choices and we make the choice to accept people or situations or to not accept situations.

You cannot tailor-make the situations in life but you can tailor-make the attitudes to fit those situations.

I played saxophone so I was into jazz. I learned from each audience and each teacher that I had. I can't really tell you any rules or anything but the way I develop my beliefs is really just by personally learning from different situations.

You can get through very serious and sometimes horrible and sometimes embarrassing and very awkward situations with humor. It gives us a way out.

All I try to do is as earnestly and as acutely as I can conceive a character and try to portray this character just honestly. If the humor is within the absurdity and the awfulness of situations then let it be seen that way.

I suppose I look for humor in most situations because it humanizes things it makes a character much more three-dimensional if there's some kind of humor. Not necessarily laugh-out-loud type of stuff just a sense that there is a humorous edge to things. I do like that.

I make fun of situations and try and find the humor in things but it's never at the expense of the other guy.
