You know when Hollywood does a great big blockbuster that really wraps you up in a world and lets you believe in extraordinary things that move you in some way in an almost operatic sensibility? That to me is the most fun I have at the movies.

I rarely see one of the 'summer blockbuster' movies. I'd like to see a stronger focus on smaller smarter movies.

Well I get my subject on Wednesday night I think it out carefully on Thursday and make my rough sketch on Friday morning I begin and stick to it all day with my nose well down on the block.

I did that for 40 years or more. I never had any writer's block. I got up in the morning sat down at the typewriter - now computer - lit up a cigarette.

No man but a blockhead ever wrote except for money.

If you're so pro-life do me a favour: don't lock arms and block medical clinics. If you're so pro-life lock arms and block cemeteries.

Marriage is all about knowing the ins and outs and the intimate details and your wife is supposed to be the person you know best. But my brother and I think alike know everything about one another and when we get together we block everything else out. Nothing exists in our world except for us.

Redefining marriage will have huge implications for what is taught in our schools and for wider society. It will redefine society since the institution of marriage is one of the fundamental building blocks of society. The repercussions of enacting same-sex marriage into law will be immense.

All life demands struggle. Those who have everything given to them become lazy selfish and insensitive to the real values of life. The very striving and hard work that we so constantly try to avoid is the major building block in the person we are today.

It's impossible to walk a block in Miami in Los Angeles San Antonio without running into someone who is being deeply impacted by a broken legal immigration system.

Of course I'd like to produce and direct a blockbuster but you gotta build up to that. So now I'm learning from a bunch of little movies. And it's more fun with smaller pictures. It's more creative.

There is no worse screen to block out the Spirit than confidence in our own intelligence.

It is the eye of ignorance that assigns a fixed and unchangeable color to every object beware of this stumbling block.

It is often easier to become outraged by injustice half a world away than by oppression and discrimination half a block from home.

And you know being able to wear the stars and stripes when you step up on one of the blocks or you know when you step off of an airplane or when you hear the national anthem play you know it's one of the greatest feelings in the world because you know that there are people at home who are supporting you and watching you.

Most of the time I liked school and got good grades. In junior high though I hit a stumbling block with math - I used to come home and cry because of how frustrated I was! But after a few good teachers and a lot of perseverance I ended up loving math and even choosing it as a major when I got to college.
