God will never direct us to be prideful arrogant and unforgiving immoral or slothful or full of fear. We step into these things because we are insensitive to the leadership of the Holy Spirit within us.

Fear is the mother of morality.

To seduce a woman famous for strict morals religious fervor and the happiness of her marriage: what could possibly be more prestigious?

God created the family to provide the maximum love and support and morality and example that one can imagine.

Whole communities are growing up without fathers or male role models. Bringing up a family in the best of circumstances is not easy. To try to do it by placing the entire burden on women - 91% of single-parent families in Britain are headed by the mother according to census data - is practically absurd and morally indefensible.

Fundamentalists are panicked by the apparent disintegration of the family the disappearance of certainty and the decay of morality. Fear leads them to ask if we cannot trust the Bible what can we trust?

To imply that religious believers have no right to engage moral questions in the public square or at the ballot is simply to establish a Reichian secularism as our state faith.

I believe there is a moral sense and a global ethic that commands attention from people of every religion and every faith and people of no faith. But I think what's new is that we now have the capacity to communicate instantaneously across frontiers right across the world.

Ethical religion can be real only to those who are engaged in ceaseless efforts at moral improvement. By moving upward we acquire faith in an upward movement without limit.

And so today if the state can no longer appeal to the old moral principles that belong to the Christian tradition it will be forced to create a new official faith and new moral principles which will be binding on its citizens.

My faith has been the driving thing of my life. I think it is important that people who are perceived as liberals not be afraid of talking about moral and community values.

For the record I believe elected officials should talk about faith. Our founders believed the moral principles of faith were indispensable to our nation's survival. The Declaration of Independence mentions God four times.

A quest for knowledge is not a war with faith spirituality is not usually an infelicitous amalgam of superstition and philistinism and moral relativism taken outside midfield leads inexorably both to heresy and to secular wickedness which are often identical.

The media seems to think only abortion and gay marriage are religious issues. Poverty is a moral issue it's a faith issue it's a religious issue.

We like security: we like the pope to be infallible in matters of faith and grave doctors to be so in moral questions so that we can feel reassured.

Politics is an act of faith you have to show some kind of confidence in the intellectual and moral capacity of the public.
