I have always wanted what I have now come to call the voice of personal narrative. That has always been the appealing voice in poetry. It started for me lyrically in Shakespeare's sonnets.

American poetry like American painting is always personal with an emphasis on the individuality of the poet.

I learned to impersonate the kind of person that talks about poetry. It comes from teaching I think.

Poetry is the revelation of a feeling that the poet believes to be interior and personal which the reader recognizes as his own.

Each of us has a very rich nature and can look at things objectively from a distance and at the same time can have something more personal to say about them. I am trying to look at the world and at myself from many different points of view. I think many poets have this duality.

The salary of the chief executive of a large corporation is not a market award for achievement. It is frequently in the nature of a warm personal gesture by the individual to himself.

I find that it isn't wise to attempt to judge people on their public persona and even on the music they make. Because I've met so many people whose music I cannot stand and they're very nice. At the same time I've met people whose music I've loved and they're not the person you've invested all this emotion in.

Getting into music has changed my personality and way of doing things. I'm far more open now.

Close friends contribute to our personal growth. They also contribute to our personal pleasure making the music sound sweeter the wine taste richer the laughter ring louder because they are there.

When I go into making a movie personally I don't try to bring other pieces of movies with me.
